I was having dinner with my in-laws on the weekend, and I told them about a list of places in Sebastopol Ballarat Council is planning to include on the Heritage Overlay. My partner and his parents grew up in Sebastopol, and at first they were incredulous that Copernicus Hall was included in the list, not being a grand old building. I asked my father-in-law John about the building, and he took me there, explaining that his father, Zygmunt (Ziggy) Gradkowski, was one of the Polish men who helped to build the hall in 1976. John and his wife also had their wedding reception there in 1977. Although John initially didn't recognise the building as "heritage", talking about it triggered so many memories.
